Westcare Family Support Services@SpiritLive(TM)

Westcare Family Support Service

Westcare Family Support Service commenced operation in 1988.  It was formed by a group of local families who had children with disabilities and needed respite.  The group of parents approached the local Parish Priest for assistance and as a result the Parish very generously provided the house on Kennedy Terrace for the purposes of conducting the business of Westcare. Thus, Westcare was able to commence providing service for families who needed respite.  The Service continues to have a strong affiliation with the Parish and is grateful for the generosity the Parish has shown to the Service and the people who use the Service

The Service expanded it’s operation in 2007 to include a second respite centre which is located at Moggill Rd, The Gap, just a short distance from the office.

Westcare Family Support Service sits under the Community Support Services branch of Centacare, which forms part of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Brisbane.  The Service is funded by Disability Services Qld and Home and Community Care, Department of Health (HACC) and currently supports over 110 people with disabilities and their families on a regular basis.  We provide in home respite, centre based respite, day programs and where funds permit holiday programs for school aged children.

Westcare Respite House

This program offers overnight, weekend and day respite options in a beautiful Queenslander located on Kennedy Terrace, Paddington.  This program offers individualised support for the person with a disability and a chance for the rest of the family to refresh during the respite stay.

In-Home Respite Program

The In-Home program provides quality support in the home to people with disabilities and their families.  We offer support options to families that is less disruptive to the routine of family members and offer individualised support for the family member with a disability.  Support offered varies and includes community access, time out for the carer, personal care, assistance with living skills and minimal/light house duties may be arranged.
